Description: HISTORIC TRAIL: This walk was voted #3
nationwide for 1998. The trail includes Princeton University, the town
shopping/eating district, Princeton Cemetary which includes the gravesites
of US President Grover Cleveland, vice president Aaron Burr, John
Witherspoon, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and John Tulane,
founder of Tuland University. The trail will also pass the home Albert
Einstein used while at the Institute for Advanced Study. There are
numerous sculptures and historic buildings along the route including
Nassau Hall which served as the nation's capital for a time. A camera is
recommended. |

Directions: Princeton is located along Route 1, 16 miles south of New Brunswick or 10 miles north of Trenton. Best Western Palmer Inn is on Route 1 southbound. 2.8 miles north of I-295 (exit 67). Use Meadow Road overpass to u-turn onto Rt 1 Soth. Access I-295 from south at Delaware Memorial Bridge and from north at I-95. From NJ Turnpike: Exit 8 (Hightstown) to 33 WEST into Hightstown, then Rt 571 to Princeton. At Rt. 1, south 2 miles to Palmer Inn.

Comments: Restrooms are available at the registration point and at several places along the walk (but not at the start point). There are several eating places in all price categories along the Nassau Street portion. The Palmer Inn also offers food and drink. |
