Trail / Event Description:  The trail is on the towpath of the Delaware-Raritan Canal. It consists of a flat dirt trail. There are some locations where the trail crosses roadways. Pets are permitted on the trail but not in the college buildings.

This walk is on the towpath of Delaware-Raritan Canal built linking the Delaware and Raritan Rivers in the 1830’s. During much of the walk the Canal will be on one side and the Millstone River on the other. In 1974 the Canal and towpath were made into a State Park. It became a National Recreation Trail in 1992. The start/end point is at the Somerset Christian College which is part of a religious community in Zarephath, NJ.

      There is no special award for this event.  Non-refundable fee for IVV credit is $3. For non-IVV members we are requesting a $3 donation to assist in covering our expenses.

Somerset Christian College is located in central New Jersey in the town of Zarephath in Somerset County . Zarephath is easy to reach from all points:

From the NORTH
Take I-287 South to exit #12 (Weston Canal Road/Manville, South Bound Brook). Make a left at the bottom of the exit ramp. Follow Weston Canal Road for about 2 miles. The Delaware and Raritan Canal will be on your right. On your left will be Somerset Christian Academy. Make your next right over the first bridge crossing the canal. You will be on the main campus of Somerset Christian College. Start point is at 10 Chapel Drive.

From the SOUTH
Take Garden State Parkway to exit 127 (I-287 North) or NJ Turnpike to exit 10 (I-287 North). Follow I-287 North to exit #12. Follow directions from the NORTH.

From the EAST
Take either I-80, I-78 or Route 22 West to I-287 South. Follow I-287 South to exit #12. Follow directions from the NORTH.

From the WEST
Take either I-80, I-78 or Route 22 East to I-287 South. Follow I-287 South to exit 12/7. Follow directions from the NORTH.

CONDITIONS: This event will be held regardless of weather conditions.

PETS: Pets are permitted on the trail but not in the college buildings.

REFRESHMENTS: Refreshments are available at the start point.  Walkers are advised to carry water, since it will not be available at check points.

RESTROOMS:   Restrooms at the Start/Finish Point. Note, the walkers will pass this location during the walk as well.
